Testimonial From Cape Canaveral, U.S. Space Alliance (Lockheed-Martin) In 1992, the engineers at Lockheed-Martin made a decision to go with a non-chemical cooling tower water treatment program. This decision was due to numerous reasons including environmental concerns regarding discharge from conventional chemical treatment. The Lockheed-Martin engineers, after much research, decided to go with an ozone system. While the claims of the manufacturer sold the engineers, the actual results were less than desirable. Within one year, both systems had to be chemically cleaned to remove scale that was causing high head pressure and lost efficiency. In March 1993, Lockheed-Martin went with RSI for their non-chemical cooling tower water treatment. RSI installed the Ecology Cell Ionization System. The Ecology Cells were installed on their two main buildings at Cape Canaveral. Building #1 has a 375 Gallon Per Minute (GPM) System. This system includes a Baltimore Air Coil Evaporative Condenser and a 125 ton chiller. Building #2 has a 600 GPM cooling tower. This tower provides water to over 40 heat pumps, each with its own condenser. Since March 1993, the head pressure on the above systems has been maintained at manufacturers design. There is no scale present in either of these systems. The engineers at Lockheed-Martin state they have not lost a compressor since the installation of the Ecology Cells. Water Savings Electrical Savings Additional Savings Dissolved metal tests and visual inspections have shown the Ecology Cells are also controlling corrosion of the systems metals, extending the life of the cooling towers which were 11 years old when the Ecology Cells were installed. The entire system shows absolutely no signs of deterioration beyond what damage was present when the Ecology Cells were installed.
